Challenge went on the slip at Hythe Marine on the 27th Feb 2020 and during the next two weeks her hull was completely stripped to bare metal using high pressure washers. The hull was then inspected for leaks and tested for thickness using ultra sound. And then primed and painted. There was a bit of excitement as she was re-launched as a small leak was detected but easily rectified and was re-floated the next day with no problems.
Now there is a boiler survey to complete and some more painting topsides to do ready for her return home to the Thames later this year.
Back on the slip
Since Chris Bannister took over Challenge he and his team have been working on her constantly to get her back to working condition gain. Shortly after she was refloated after her maintenance on the slip at Hythe, a small leak was found under the condenser. Fortunately the slip was still vacant at Hythe and it was decided to put her back on the slip in July to investigate further. The leak was found along with a couple of other areas of concern which were all fixed.
